Frequently Asked Questions
I've never been in therapy. What is it like?
This is an important and tricky question. The honest answer is that therapy is different for everyone, because it is as unique as the relationship you develop with your therapist.
I can say that there is plenty of talking and that I view my role: 1) as pointing out what I see happening; 2) exploring whether this is supporting your highest goals; and 3) helping to develop or explore new avenues for existing in a more balanced and sustainable way.
Do you accept my insurance? What payment options are there for clients whose insurance you don't accept? What if I don't want to use my insurance or am uninsured?
I am currently paneled with FirstChoice, Premera, and PacificSource. I have a biller who can help verify your benefits to ensure that I accept your specific plan within those carriers.
The majority of my clients pay out of pocket and then request reimbursement from their plans afterward. My hourly rate varies from $115 – $200 per hour, depending on the type of service being provided.
Many of my out of pocket clients are able to do so by using a “superbill” process. A superbill is basically a receipt for your therapy services, which I can provide you. You then submit this superbill to your insurance carrier directly for reimbursement.
If you are uninsured or paying out of pocket without the intent to receive reimbursement for your therapy services from your insurer, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate for your healthcare expenses from me.
I am happy to answer any further questions you may have about this!
I really want to come in but my spouse / partners / family members don't. What can I do?
A tough situation to be sure!
If loved ones are on the fence – for whatever reason – I am more than happy to have a free phone consultation to answer questions or address concerns. Usually, people have valid reasons for feeling hesitant. There is no obligation to pursue therapy – with me or anyone else – by having this consultation.
How does telehealth work? When can we go back to in-person sessions?
Telehealth in the post-2020 age is essentially a HIPAA-secure video chat service. We are able to meet safely and regularly, without the risk of services being disrupted due to state mandates or outbreaks. It’s as easy as sitting down at your laptop, logging in, and having your session from the comfort of your home.
That said – we are all a bit tired of this process at this point, which is totally valid. However, I cannot guarantee when I will be resuming face-to-face services at this point. I do intend to follow CDC guidelines and take the lowest-risk approach possible with my clients for the foreseeable future.
